What are some better choices at my favorite restaurants?

Who DOESN'T love eating out?  It's a great way to be social, work on community skills, choices and just great fun - not to mention not having to cook!  But are all the choices good ones?  How can I make better choices than just ordering the same old burger and fries???

Take a look at the following slide show, which can help you make better choices:

Ten More Nutritional Food Options At Not So Nutritional Restaurants from Esha Research

In addition, here's a quick TEACHERtube video on making great choices when eating out!

Nutrition!  It's not necessarily something that anyone likes to discuss, but it's essential.  We'll be doing a unit based on nutrition and we'll be working on cooking projects throughout the week to talk about what's a good meal and what might be NOT be a great choice.  What's your favorite thing to eat?  We'll be talking about THE PLATE, which replaced the food pyramid.  We'll also make one from this nifty idea on Pinterest...take a look!

School is starting soon!  I know many of you have been with Mrs. Holloway all summer, but I'm anxious to get back in the saddle and begin another fun-filled, educationally challenging curriculum.  I've been taking technology classes all summer and I'm anxious to share some of what I've learned!  Let's do it together!

We'll have lots of cooking, art, leisure, daily living skills and going to work - but...don't forget every Friday when we are in session is FUN FRIDAY!  We can still have fun and learn.  Thematic units will start a couple of weeks into term and we have lots of new topics we're going to tackle this year.

Also keep in mind that we have new students joining us this fall - PERMANENTLY.  You all got to know each other over the summer, but we need to be patient while we adjust to new individuals in the classroom.  Be kind to one another!

See you all soon!
